Additional Tips
- The office of your state representative or state senator can give you a wealth of information on available grants. Many have regular grant resource e-mails that tell you when grants open and close. These e-mails also notify you about meetings/classes on grants. Your state legislators may also have information on funds available. This will help you determine if you are going to request partial or full funds to pay for your Asphalt Zipper.
- There are several grant resource guides that list all available grants. The Pennsylvania Grant and Resource Directory and the Pennsylvania Municipal Leaders Funding and Resource Guide are two resources that we found.
- You will need letters of support for your grant. No matter who is writing your letters of support, it is important to show that you have a lot of support for your project and that the community is excited about it. Give the people writing your letters of support information on the Asphalt Zipper so they know how beneficial it will be. Asphalt Zipper videos are especially helpful. It’s also helpful to emphasize how cost-effective and environmentally friendly the Asphalt Zipper will be.
- The organizations offering the grants can walk you through the process and help you know what they are looking for. Don’t be afraid to call them with questions, even multiple times.
- You do most of the actual paperwork online and find a lot of resources at the Pennsylvania Department of Community & Economic Development: https://dced.pa.gov/programs-funding/. Complete a summary of your request into a one or two page max document that lays out what, why, justification, and any cost savings/benefit to the community/citizens, etc. (An Asphalt Zipper will allow you to recycle your old, worn out roads and turn them into reusable base material. This will allow you to fix roads yourselves for half the cost of paying a contractor, allowing you to fix more roads each year for your community with your current road repair budget. ) List some road repair projects you will use an Asphalt Zipper for.
- Contact Dave Fokken ASAP for an updated Asphalt Zipper price quote. You will submit this with your application.
